That this House notes with concern that each year 500,000 dogs are slaughtered for their meat in the Philippines; recognises that trade in dog meat was made illegal in the Philippines in 1998; further notes that a recent investigation by the Humane Society International found the commercial trade in dog meat is still flourishing; further notes that during transportation up to one hundred dogs may be packed into a wooden crate for up to eight hours causing death and injury; and calls on the Government to support the Philippines government in improving animal welfare in the Philippines.
