The motion
That this House supports the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal which raises both money and awareness for ex-servicemen and women who have served this country bravely and with distinction; supports the wearing of poppies as a manner through which to express our gratitude to members of the armed services both past and present; encourages all hon. Members and members of the public to observe the tradition of wearing poppies in remembrance during the weeks leading up to Armistice Day; notes that the traditional period for wearing poppies commenced on 22 October 2009; calls on all hon. Members who wish to wear poppies to observe this convention and wear their poppies with pride during this period; and hopes that the appeal will be, yet again, a huge success and that it raises in excess of the £88 million that the Royal British Legion spent carrying out work among the serving and ex-Service community last year.
