UK POPULATION AND IMMIGRATION

The motion
That this House is concerned that net immigration was 163,000 in 2008 and that this level of immigration will result in the UK population exceeding 70 million in 20 years; notes that 70 per cent. of the forecast population increase is due to immigration; recognises that to maintain the UK's population below 70 million, net inward migration would need to be reduced from 237,000 in 2007 to a maximum of 50,000 a year; and calls on the Government to restrict net inward migration to 50,000 a year and to withdraw from European agreements that remove the UK's ability to control immigration.
