PUBLIC TRANSPORT FARES IN LONDON (No. 2)

Tabled by George Galloway (Workers Party of Britain) 2 signatures

The motion

That this House notes London's woeful position as fourth from bottom in EuroTest's newly published comparative report on local public transport systems in 23 European cities; further notes that London fares were found to be the most expensive in Europe, even before the inflation-busting January 2010 fares rise; believes that development of a fully-integrated public transport system with fares that offer good value for money is essential to reduce traffic congestion and pollution throughout the capital; further believes that it is an unfair burden on the travelling public, many of whom can least afford to pay, to bear these disproportionately high costs; and therefore calls on the Government to provide proper financing for Transport for London to reduce fares to the level of the European average within the next two years.
