The motion
That this House salutes the men of RAF Bomber Command, recalling that 55,573 of their number gave their lives in the Second World War; and supports the campaign by the Bomber Command Association for the erection of a memorial in an appropriate place in Green Park, London, to pay a long-overdue tribute to the bravery of these fine men of whom their Commander, Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Harris, wrote `There is no parallel in warfare to such courage and determination in the face of danger over so prolonged a period ...such devotion must never be forgotten' and of whom Churchill said in 1940 `The fighters are our salvation, but the bombers are our means of victory'.
