The motion
That this House notes the increasing use of social networking sites such as Facebook; notes that while they normally provide a very useful service, on occasions they have been used as a vehicle for intimidation, such as recently when the hon. Member for East Londonderry was subjected to a hate campaign which included a photograph of him with a bullet through the forehead, a threat to attack him on specific occasions, an attempt to put a Google Earth picture of his home on the site and a series of vile and false allegations, all in a desperate and unsuccessful attempt to frighten and scare; and calls on social network sites such as Facebook more closely to monitor the content so that those who may not be as determined as the hon. Member to defy and defeat some cowardly users of the site can enjoy the medium free from such individuals and their actions.
