REFERENCE OF COMPLAINTS TO THE STANDARDS AND PRIVILEGES COMMITTEE

Tabled by John Hemming (Liberal Democrat) 29 signatures

The motion

That this House notes that Article 13 of the Bill of Rights states `for Redresse of all Grievances and for the amending strengthening and preserving of the Lawes Parlyaments ought to be held frequently'; recognises that Parliament cannot redress grievances of which it is unaware; regrets the actions of those people who threaten constituents in an attempt to prevent them communicating with their hon. Members; believes that in so doing those acting to prevent communications with hon. Members are hindering hon. Members in the performance of their duties and are in contempt of Parliament; and therefore orders that motions to refer to the Standards and Privileges Committee complaints ofsuch behaviour where linked to proceedings in parliament, actual or proposed, should automatically be given preference over other items at the commencement of public business on the next sitting day.
