SCREENING FOR ABDOMINAL AORTIC ANEURYSMS

That this House supports the Circulation Foundation's efforts to raise awareness of the planned national screening programme for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA); welcomes the work carried out by the NHS AAA screening programme team; notes that abdominal aortic aneurysms are the third most common cause of death for males aged over 65 and that each year nearly 7,000 people, almost all of them men, die suddenly and without symptoms; and urges the Government to reaffirm its support for the programme and its full implementation as quickly as possible.
