OFSTED INSPECTIONS OF CHILDREN'S HOMES

That this House notes with concern that of the 1,879 children's homes most recently inspected by Ofsted between 1 April 2009 and 31 March 2010, there were 108 classed as inadequate and 498 as merely satisfactory, together making up almost one third of the total; expresses disappointment that some of the country's most vulnerable children are still having to live in such poor conditions; and urges more frequent use of section 26 of the Children and Young Persons Act 2008, which allows Ofsted to issue compliance notices detailing how failures should be remedied and to cancel registrations of children's homes.
