VOTER REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Tabled by Lord Brennan of Canton (Labour) 35 signatures

The motion

That this House expresses its dismay at the Government's view that there should be no requirement on individuals to register to vote; believes that it is a citizen's civic duty to register to vote; notes that in Northern Ireland where individual voter registration has already been introduced it remains an offence not to return the voter registration form; and calls on the Government to reconsider its position in the light of the message about the importance of voter registration it sends out to the public.
