PROSTATE CANCER AND MOVEMBER CHARITY

The motion
That this House recognises that prostate cancer is the most common cancer amongst men with one man dying every hour from the disease in the UK; acknowledges that nine out of 10 men diagnosed with prostate cancer are over 60 years old and that those with a family history and men from an African or Caribbean background are at higher risk; supports the right of every man over 50, and young men at higher risk, to have access to balanced information about the prostate-specific antigen test, which can help diagnose prostate cancer; welcome the work carried out by the international charity Movember where men are encouraged to grow moustaches to raise awareness and funds for The Prostate Cancer Charity in the UK, with the money raised by Movember going towards the development of programmes related to awareness, public education, advocacy, support of those affected and research into the prevention, detection, treatment and cure of prostate cancer; and calls on the Government to support Movember in raising vital awareness and funds for this terrible disease and to better last year's45,000 participants and the 5 million raised in the UK.
