EU FUNDING FOR SYMBIAN MOBILE OPERATING SYSTEM

Tabled by Robert Halfon (Conservative) 4 signatures

The motion

That this House notes the fact that the European Union is seeking to use 22 million euros of hard-pressed taxpayers' money to subsidise a mobile operating system called Symbian; further notes that this system is primarily used by Nokia, whose sales have plummeted as a result, and that other competitors have abandoned it due to its outdated technology, bugs and manufacturing errors; is concerned that the European Union is stifling competition and picking losers andfrittering away taxpayers' money on a grand scale; and therefore calls on the European Union to cease its anti-competitive policies and, if it can find no better use for the money, to return it to the working families of Britain who are taxed enough already.
