ANGLO-IRISH AGREEMENT

Tabled by Sir Jeffrey M Donaldson (Independent) 7 signatures

The motion

That this House notes that Lady Thatcher in 1998 disavowed the Anglo-Irish Agreement and said that Enoch Powell and others had been right to oppose it; recalls that the agreement was strongly opposed by a clear majority of people in Northern Ireland; recognises that the accord failed in all of its proclaimed objectives, not least in its goal of strengthening democratic, non-violent constitutional nationalism within Northern Ireland over sectarian, Republican terrorism and its political proxies; and welcomes the fact that it has now been eclipsed.
