GENDER EQUALITY IN SUCCESSION TO THE THRONE

Tabled by Keith Vaz (Labour) 13 signatures

The motion

That this House notes with concern that under the rule of primogeniture men have precedence over women in succeeding to the Throne; further notes the application of gender equality in other aspects of society; recognises that integralprimogeniture, or equal succession rights, were introduced in the Kingdoms of Sweden in 1980, the Netherlands in 1983, Norway in 1990, Belgium in 1991 and Denmark in 2009; and urges the Government to bring forward legislative proposals which will ensure non-gender biased succession rights.
