The motion
That this House notes the continuing decline in interest over a number of years in the various cup competitions in association football throughout the UK; further notes the recent poor attendances at cup games in both England and Scotland; is concerned at the increasing domination of football generally by a small number of clubs with significant financial backing; and calls for consideration to be given to a radical review by clubs in each of the four home countries in conjunction with UEFA, with a view to considering a UK-wide cup competition held on an annual basis with a place in the Champions League and a place in the Europa League for the finalists, to reignite interest in cup football as well as helping to develop finances to a range of clubs in addition to the glamourous elite that dominate the UK's national game.
