FLOODS IN BRAZIL

The motion

That this House offers its deepest condolences to the people who are victims of severe flooding in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo which has triggered some of the deadliest landslides in Brazilian history; expresses its enduring support to the quick response and efforts being undertaken by the local and national governments to rescue the stranded populations; is reminded of the need for improved property planning regulation and enforcement to ensure the safety of the citizens of Brazil; observes that this natural phenomenon is part of a wider series of catastrophic events taking place in recent weeks around the world; calls on the Government to offer support in accordance with what may be required; and urges that appropriate measures be taken to address the issues fully through co-operation and dialogue at a multilateral level.
