GOVERNMENT OFFICES IN THE ENGLISH REGIONS

That this House recognises the important work of civil servants based in the Government Offices for the English Regions; regrets the closure of the remaining Government Offices by 31 March 2011 as announced by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government on 13 July 2010; welcomes the work of the trade unions representing staff in the Government Offices in making the case for their members' jobs and the efforts that have been taken to avoid enforced redundancies; and calls on the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government to ensure that all possible efforts are taken by his Department to avoid the enforced redundancies of hard working civil servants in negotiation with relevant trade unions.
