WELFARE REFORM AND CANCER SUFFERERS

Tabled by Sir Alan Meale (Labour) 36 signatures

The motion

That this House believes that people suffering from cancer shouldn't be treated differently in the nation's welfare system, depending upon the type of cancer treatment they receive; understands that people with the disease can often take longer than 12 months to return to work because of the debilitating physical and psychological effects of their treatment; and is alarmed by Government proposals in its welfare reforms to time limit employment and support allowance irrespective of whether sufferers are ready to resume their employment, whilst also proposing to double the period of time that people must demonstrate they need personal independence payments from a period of three to six months.
