PROPOSAL FOR ONLINE RATING OF PRIVATE LANDLORDS

That this House welcomes the Consumer Focus Opening the Door report; acknowledges the need for an independent tenant feedback scheme on the performance of their landlords; believes that empowering tenants in this way would lead to a marked improvement in the standard of some landlords' behaviour; notes that only 15 per cent. of tenants surveyed were able to find all the information they would want to know about their landlords and over a quarter could find little or no information at all; and supports the idea of an online ratings website for private renters to provide feedback on the conduct of their landlords.
