DEDUCTIONS BY DSS FROM INJURY COMPENSATION AWARDS

Tabled by Allen McKay (Labour) 59 signatures

The motion

That this House deplores legislation which takes from injury compensation payment awards money paid to recipients by the DSS in sick and injury benefits legally claimed; notes that compensation awards made are for persons suffering pain, disfigurement, injury, loss of earnings or loss of potential earnings, among many other matters taken into consideration but not any payments made by the DSS, and that the Government is thereby deducting from the award money which rightfully belongs to the person who is the unfortunate victim of a tragic accident; and asks the next Labour Government to change this system and legislate immediately.
