The motion
That this House congratulates the satirical magazine Private Eye on its 50th anniversary on 25 October 2011; notes that the magazine has a reputation for highlighting Parliamentary misdemeanors, a record which should be commended rather than condemned; observes that over five turbulent decades it has developed its unique mix of jokes and journalism, comedy and campaigning, gags and gossip, laughter and libel and reporting political plots to royal revelations and City scandal to media manipulation; and wishes Private Eye continuing achievements in years to come in covering the public life of the nation in a way which other media do not.
