The motion

That this House recognises the contribution of British contemporary and pop music to the UK creative industries as celebrated at the 2012 Brit Awards; congratulates all the nominees and eventual winners including Adele and Ed Sheeran both recognised with two Brit Awards each this year; notes the emergence of the Sunderland born and Alford raised artist Emeli Sand, the winner of this year's Brits Critics' Award for her collaborative and individual musical output; further notes her success at the top of the UK charts; expresses concern at the ongoing trend for decreasing album sales in the UK market, despite the increase in legal digital download sales; and calls on the Government to continue to work with the music industry and consumer groups to ensure that the UK's creative talent is not stifled, but rather that it is recognised and justly rewarded as part of a global industry.
