The motion
That this House mourns the passing of Marge Carey MBE, former President of the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers; celebrates Marge's rise from a pools coupon checker at Vernons to a leading trade union organiser in a bygone era when very few women rose through the ranks in that way; remembers fondly a small feisty woman with a direct style, which led former Prime Minister Tony Blair to describe her as `a wonderful woman full of strongly expressed common sense, goodwill and good judgment'; notes with great sadness the end of Marge's battle with motor neurone disease, perhaps the only challenge in her life that she was not able to overcome; and calls on hon. Members to continue Marge's commitment to promote and support the valuable work of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
