The motion
That this House believes that the Government's announcement that it intends to close Clyde Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (Coastguard Station) threatens the safety of people using the waters and coast off the west coast of Scotland; notes that this decision was made without undertaking a risk assessment exercise; further notes that the closure of the Clyde coastguard station at its present site by end of 2012 will not allow time to run in tandem with Belfast and Stornoway for transfer of detailed local knowledge; welcomes the offer made by Inverclyde Council to assist with finding other suitable premises to retain the Rescue Centre on the Clyde; and urges the Secretary of State to respond positively.
