BBC LICENCE FEE

The motion

That this House notes that for over 12 months hon. Members have expressed concerns about the possible influence of the Murdochs over the Government's BBC licence fee settlement in November 2010 given the speech by James Murdoch in 2009 urging cuts to the licence fee and to the BBC; further notes that from their evidence to the Leveson Inquiry it is now known that James Murdoch met the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport both before and after the 2010General Election to discuss the BBC; and calls on the Prime Minister to ensure that all correspondence, emails and texts between the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport, his Department's officials and special advisers and the Murdochs and their representatives and any minutes and notes of meetings on the BBC andits licence fee are published.
