The motion
That this House notes that the Government plans to reduce the number of UK troops by 2020; understands the concern of the people of Wales that the future retention of the name of the 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards (QDG), popularly known as the Welsh Cavalry, is threatened; praises the work the QDG's brave and committed soldiers do on behalf of the UK, including their recent service in Afghanistan; extols the service and sacrifices that previous generations of the regiment have made for the nation; acknowledges that the QDG has strong geographical recruitment ties and strong regional connections with Wales and the Borders; and urges the Government to retain this senior, skilled and first-class regiment.
