COMMISSION EXAMINING TAX ON FUEL

Tabled by Baroness Ritchie of Downpatrick (Labour) 31 signatures

The motion

That this House recognises that people and businesses are being hit hard by soaring fuel prices; notes that the exorbitant price of fuel is compounded by taxes which have put financial pressure on hard-pressed families as well as struggling businesses; further notes with concern the Government's plans to apply a three pence rise in fuel tax later this year; calls on the Government to mitigate the rising fuel prices and scrap the three pence rise in fuel tax; and urges the Government to set up a commission to look at ways of re-assessing value added tax levels.
