The motion
That this House welcomes the announcement by Leeds Rhinos that their players will feature their Twitter handles on their shirts in their forthcoming Super League match against Hull on 6 July 2012; congratulates the Rhinos on an innovation which brings together social media and sport in what is a first for rugby, allowing fans and commentators to engage with the sport in a new way; notes that besides the Rhinos' 18,000 followers, two of their players, England internationals Rob Burrow and Jamie Peacock, each have more followers than that individually, and the club will now be able to reach out to more of Twitter's 500 million users; further welcomes the announcement that Rhinos players will also be wearing special lime green and steel grey shirts in their 3rd annual Armed Forces Day match to help raise awareness and funds for the Royal Navy and Royal Marine charity; and encourages other rugby league clubs to follow this lead and make the best use of social media to bring the sport to new followers.
