24-HOUR WORLD RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2012

The motion

That this Housesupports Team GB competitors in the 24-hour World Running Championships taking place in Poland on 8 and 9 September 2012; recognises the intense training and amazing motivation that the Team GB athletes display as they represent the country in such a gruelling event; further recognises Chris Carver of Otley as he represents the UK during this gruelling event in which he will have to complete the equivalent of up to six marathon runs in one day in order to hit his target distance; notes that this will be the fifth time Chris has represented England or the UK in 24-hour races since October 2006; further notes that he has won gold and silver medals in the Commonwealth Championships and a bronze medal in the European Championships as well as a gold medal from an international race in Perth, Scotland in 2010 whilst setting his current personal best of just over 238 kilometres (148 miles); and further celebrates his raising of 2,200 for atesticular cancer charity by running from Otley to London in 46 hours having recovered from testicular cancer himself as well as losing half of one lung to the disease.
