The motion

That this House notes the Report, Family Poverty Strategy which was considered by Manchester City Council on 12 September 2012; is concerned that 40,000 children are in families living below or seriously below the poverty line; is aware of the links between poverty, poor health, low educational and occupational achievement, low self-esteem and behavioural issues and crime; considers this report to be a wake-up call for all relevant agencies; applauds the campaign of the Manchester Evening News to highlight this issue; is further concerned that child poverty is once against on the increase in Manchester and nationwide; endorses the call of the city council for central Government to work with Manchester on child poverty; and calls on the Government to put effort and resource into working with partner agencies nationwide to commit to an anti-poverty strategy and make a real difference to the lives of many of the nation's children.
