That this House welcomes the Royal College of Nursing's This is nursing initiative to promote the profession of nursing and to highlight the dedication, knowledge and skills needed to be a modern day nurse; acknowledges the seven key work streams of the initiative, paperwork and administration, safe staffing levels including the care of older people, nurse education, professional attitudes and behaviours, nurse leadership, the training and regulation of health care support workersand quality and the Principles of Nursing Practice; considers nurses to be the backbone of the NHS; and calls on the Government to respect the position and role of nurses and the nursing profession in its future planning.
