GCSE EXAMINATIONS

<p>That this House notes that the Association of School and College Leadershas submitted evidence to Ofqual that suggests more than 10,000 students who sat GCSE tests in January were more likely to get a higher grade for the same marks than those who were assessed this summer; further notes concerns over grading of GCSE English examinations expressed by councils, schools and trades unions; further notes that the data on pupil achievement published in school performance tables does not normally include Key Stage Four results from examinations taken as autumn re-sits, that individual schools can themselves amend data through the Raise Online self-assessment tool to take account of re-sit grades and that Ofsted is not currently obliged to give weight to any data provided by schools as part of this self-assessment process; and therefore calls on the Government to work with Ofsted to allow the outcome of autumn re-sits to be recognised in school performance tables relatingto the 2011-12academic year.</p>
