PAYROLL COMPANIES

Tabled by Lord Cryer (Labour) 34 signatures

The motion

That this House notes with concern the use of payroll companies such as Hudson Contract; believes that such companies allow employers to avoid their obligations with regard to holiday pay, redundancy and notice by turning whole workforces into self-employed operatives; further notes the recently published report, The Great Payroll Scandal, published by the trade union UCATT, which draws attention to such practices; and calls on the Government to investigate such bogus self-employment in the UK.
