The motion
That this House is aware of the recent clinical audit of schizophrenia care which contained shocking statistics that reinforced concerns raised about people suffering from this medical condition, in particular that three quarters of sufferers miss out on the vital support they need to maintain their physical health; notes that this is despite clear recommendations from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence to treat sufferers as a priority; finds it both shocking and unacceptable that people affected by mental illness on average die needlessly 20 years sooner than the average because of their condition and lack of adequate support; and calls on the Government to end such inequalities in respect of the support and treatment for the mentally ill and work closely in particular with the Schizophrenia Commission and Rethink Mental Illness Alliance to find a way forward on this most important matter.
