TAXATION ON THE WEALTHIEST 10 PER CENT

Tabled by George Galloway (Workers Party of Britain) 1 signatures

The motion

That this House calls on the Government to introduce a one-off tax of 20 per cent on the wealthiest 10 per cent of the population which could raise 800 billion and wipe out the National Debt; notes that this would also avoid the need for the deep and harmful cuts in education, welfare and public services presently being carried out by the Government; further notes that this policy has had the support of 74 per cent of the population according to a YouGov survey; and commends Professor Greg Philo and his colleagues at Glasgow University for their pioneering work on this issue.
