SANTA MARIA NIGHTCLUB FIRE

That this House extends its deepest condolence to the families and loved ones of those who have lost their lives in the tragic nightclub fire in the city of Santa Maria, Brazil, in the early hours of 27 January 2013; expresses solidarity with the Brazilian people in this moment of great sadness; welcomes President Dilma Rousseff's declaration of three days of mourning; commends Rio Grande do Sul Governor Tarso Genro's call for a `deep, incisive and quick inquiry' into the cause of the fire; and urges the municipal, state and federal authorities to ensure important lessons are learnt from this tragedy to improve fire safety regulation so that such an occurrence does not happen again.
