NEWRY CREDIT UNION

The motion

That this House recognises the contribution that is made by credit unions in the communities in which they operate; acknowledges the brilliant work done by Newry Credit Union asit celebratesits 50th anniversary year; further recognises that Newry Credit Union operates on a non-profit basis and is sustained without government assistance by a history of volunteerism; commends Newry Credit Union in serving 18,500 customers by providing 53 million in savings facilities and 31 million in loans, often to people without access to other financial services in this very challenging economic environment; and calls on the Government to support the valuable work done by credit unions within the financial service industry.
