FIGHT TO ERADICATE POLIO

Tabled by Jim Sheridan (Labour) 34 signatures

The motion

That this House applauds the efforts made to tackle polio globally, acknowledges that this effort has been 99.9 per cent effective and a concerted effort could eradicate this terrible disease; expresses concern that the World Health Assembly declared polio as an emergency for global public health and believes that the presence of polio anywhere is the threat of polio everywhere; notes the expiration of the pledge made by the previous Government in 2008 to commit £20 million per year to fighting polio; and calls on the Government to continue its support and funding to eradicate polio.
