The motion

That this House welcomes the Britain Needs a Pay Rise report published by the Public and Commercial Services Union which highlights that since the onset of recession in 2008 the real value of wages has fallen by seven per cent or £50 billion a year; notes that in the same period there has been a real terms drop in consumer demand of five per cent; further notes that the Government's public sector pay policy is having a negative impact on the UK's economy; and calls on the Government to seriously take on board the report's recommendations to increase public sector pay and the national minimum wage and support for the extension of the living wage by insisting on it for Government contracts in order to stimulate demand and act as a catalyst for increases in wages across the economy.
