The motion
That this House recalls that it was a Conservative government under Margaret Thatcher which cheaply sold-off a sparkling element of the family silver, British Gas; notes that had this not happened its profits would now be going towards supporting the poorest in society by keeping down bills rather than further enriching its managing director to the tune of £10 million and its shareholders by £3.5 billion; and calls on the Government to introduce a windfall profits tax on companies controlling our natural assets and essential services so that the public interest can be served rather than private profit.
