NUCLEAR SUBSIDY

That this House seeks clarification of reports that the Government has abandoned its no-nuclear subsidy pledge and is about to agree a 35-year subsidy to French energy group EDF to build new nuclear power stations at a strike price double that originally proposed; believes that it is unwise to commit UK taxpayers to a subsidy of £30 billion in the short-term and £150 billion in the long-term for EDF which is currently £33 billion in debt; notes the improved competitive position of the US because of falling energy prices; and believes that a prolonged deal with EDF would seriously disadvantage the UK economy for decades.
