SHAKER AAMER

Tabled by George Galloway (Workers Party of Britain) 4 signatures

The motion

That this House welcomes the news that Scotland Yard has opened investigations into three further allegations of mistreatment and torture of detainees at Bagram detention centre after 9/11; notes that one of those detainees is Shaker Aamer, now at Guantánamo, who has never been charged and was cleared for release in 2007; further notes that overseas intelligence agencies, including the CIA, are refusing to co-operate in investigations; further notes that the then Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, the right hon. Member for Blackburn, ordered the delay of the transfer of British prisoners to Guantánamo so that they could be interrogated by specialist teams of British intelligence officers; and urges both a speedy conclusion to the investigations and the release of Shaker Aamer.
