BRITISH PHYSICS OLYMPIAD

The motion

That this House acknowledges the work of the British Physics Olympiad, which gives gifted young physicists the opportunity to develop their knowledge of physics and compete against their international counterparts at the Annual International Physics Olympiad; notes the achievement of the British representatives at the 43rd International Physics Olympiad 2012, winning two silver and three bronze medals; congratulates the five British representatives who will compete at the 44th International Physics Olympiad 2013 in Denmark from 7 to 15 July 2013; further notes the value of physics to the economy, with physics-based businesses contributing 8.5 per cent of UK gross domestic product and employing more than one million people; and calls on the Government to offer support for science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects that are representing Britain on the world stage.
