The motion
That this House commemorates the elevation of Councillor Sylvia Emmott to Kendal Town Mayor on 16 May 2013; recognises the incredible enthusiasm, motivation and commitment she has shown in supporting and improving her local community in and around the Kendal area over the last 40 years; praises the work she has done to improve education in the local area including 35 years' teaching at the Queen Katherine School (QKS) and a further five years as a governor at both QKS and the further education establishment Kendal College; commends the fantastic efforts Sylvia has put into community fundraising, including raising £8,000 for Paddlers for Life, which enabled the charity to pay for a boat which is used for cancer survivors to encourage physical activity and camaraderie, and which was part of the Queen's Jubilee procession on the Thames; notes that after nine years of service as a Kendal Town and District Councillor, including two years as Chair of South Lakeland District Council, Sylvia's elevation to Kendal Town Mayor is an extremely well-deserved honour; and calls on the people of Kendal to recognise the incredible contribution made by Councillor Sylvia Emmott and to pay their respects accordingly.
