EARLY DAY MOTIONS AND PARLIAMENTARY ACTIVITY

That this House acknowledges that Early Day Motions (EDMs) have been used on a number of occasions to highlight important issues which otherwise may have proved difficult for hon. Members to raise; notes that they have produced effective results; and nonetheless deeply regrets abuses of the system whereby in one instance almost 100 EDMs were submitted by an hon. Member in a few months, leading to the suggestion that EDMs are being used as a smokescreen for a significant amount of parliamentary inactivity.
