The motion
That this House welcomes research by George Washington University suggesting a 15 minute post-meal walk could prevent older people from developing Type 2 diabetes; notes the study found elevated blood-sugar as a result of eating was a key risk factor in the progression from impaired glucose tolerance to Type 2 diabetes; recognises the impact of diabetes and its associated complications on the nation's health, costing the NHS an estimated £9.8 billion annually and affecting an estimated three million people; and calls on the Government to commission a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the dangers and complications of diabetes.
