THALIDOMIDE GRUNENTHAL CAMPAIGN

Tabled by Tim Farron (Liberal Democrat) 33 signatures

The motion

That this House notes the devastating impact thalidomide had on the children of pregnant women who were prescribed the drug to help with morning sickness; further notes that in the UK there are currently 467 thalidomide survivors aged between 49 and 53 damaged by this drug; acknowledges that while in August 2012 the Chief Executive of Grunenthal, Harald Stock, issued a statement of regret to the survivors of thalidomide, this followed over 50 years of silence and inaction on the part of Grunenthal; and calls on the Government to put pressure on Grunenthal to provide a full apology and accept responsibility by providing financial compensation that properly reflects the full range and impacts of damage to all UK survivors of the thalidomide drug who are still alive today.
