PERSONAL ALLOWANCE OF £12,500 PER YEAR

Tabled by Mr Gregory Campbell (Democratic Unionist Party) 8 signatures

The motion

That this House notes recent speculation that the Government may be considering raising the threshold at which people begin paying income tax to £12,500 per annum; acknowledges that this would be a significant step in incentivising the unemployed, and low-paid and part-time employees; recognises that EDM 960 of Session 2012-13 in January 2013, tabled by the hon. Member for East Londonderry, called for a similar introduction; and looks forward to the speedy introduction of a measure which would help the low paid as well as combat the black economy in areas of high unemployment.
