LONG TERM CARE COSTS AND INHERITANCE TAX

Tabled by Sir Alan Meale (Labour) 19 signatures

The motion

That this House notes the news that the Government is delaying by a further four years the plan to introduce a £72,000 cap on monies taken from an estate to pay for the long-term care of dementia, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease sufferers, whilst it legislates to increase inheritance tax thresholds to £1 million; believes that to penalise the poorest and most in need of support in this way is outrageous and immoral; and calls on the Government to reverse its intention to simply give and maintain such tax cuts and benefits for the rich and instead support the poorest in society, who need the most help.
