50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INTRODUCTION OF THE RACE RELATIONS ACT 1965

That this House celebrates the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the Race Relations Act 1965, which was the first legislation in the UK to address racial discrimination and which outlawed discrimination on the grounds of colour, race, or ethnic or national origins in public places; notes that it also prompted the creation of The Race Relations Board in 1966, the forerunner of the Commission for Racial Equality, which is now part of the Equality and Human Rights Commission; and commends the tireless work of those who ensured that racial justice and equality are an essential part of British values.
